The second phase of voting for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections is scheduled for April 29. Today marks the final day of campaigning. Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Barrackpore to campaign for the BJP. PM Modi stated, “In 1857, it was this very soil of Barrackpore that gave strength to the First War of Independence. Today, this same land is further paving the way for change in Bengal.” Referring to the BJP’s election slogans and the winds of change blowing across Bengal, PM Modi told the rally that a single slogan is resonating everywhere in the state: ‘Paltono Darkar, Chai BJP Sarkar’—meaning the public desires change and has resolved to form a BJP government.
Describing the rally as the final public meeting of the election campaign, PM Modi expressed his confidence—based on the mood of the people across the state—that a BJP government would be formed following the declaration of results on May 4, and that he would return to Bengal once again to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
‘The Public Is My Family, and I Find Solace in Being Among Them’
Referring to the public support he received during the election campaign, he remarked that the messages, letters, and sketches presented to him by people during rallies and roadshows hold immense significance for him. He noted that he makes time at night to reflect upon these sentiments and read the messages sent by the people. Recalling his long political journey, the Prime Minister stated that he has been working continuously across the country for several decades, faithfully fulfilling every responsibility entrusted to him by his party. He affirmed that the public constitutes his family, and he finds a deep sense of solace in being amidst them.
PM Modi asserted that a wave of change is clearly visible across the state. He emphasized that his bond with the land of Bengal is deeply special, and he regards his experiences here as a blessing in his life. According to him, the sheer numbers in which the public is turning out make it evident that the entire state of Bengal—including Barrackpore—stands ready for change.
PM Modi described his election roadshows and rallies as an experience akin to a ‘pilgrimage.’ He remarked that despite the scorching heat and a relentless schedule of events, he felt no fatigue, as the enthusiasm of the people served as a constant source of energy for him. He remarked that even after the program had concluded, crowds of people would often linger far and wide; witnessing this, he would once again step amongst them with renewed enthusiasm. He further added that interacting with the devotees of Goddess Kali consistently imbued him with a special sense of energy.
PM Modi’s 5 Major Guarantees from Barrackpore
During a public rally in Barrackpore, West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced five key guarantees for the people of the state. He stated that these promises have been made with the development of Bengal and the future of its youth firmly in mind. Under PM Modi’s first guarantee, street vendors and hawkers will receive financial assistance through banking channels to help strengthen their businesses. In his second guarantee, he gave an assurance that government recruitment processes would be completed within stipulated timeframes and with absolute transparency.
The third guarantee outlines a commitment to provide direct appointment letters to the youth through the organization of job fairs. Meanwhile, the fourth guarantee promises the immediate implementation of the 7th Pay Commission within the state. In his fifth—and crucial—guarantee, PM Modi pledged that to curb migration from the state, 125 days of employment would be provided in villages, ensuring that people can find work within their own local regions.
TMC Lacks Both Vision and the Intent to Act
During the event, the Prime Minister also launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC). He alleged that the TMC possesses no clear roadmap for the development of Bengal. He noted that the party has failed to provide any concrete accountability for its 15 years in power. He asserted that they possess neither a vision nor the genuine intent to accomplish anything. PM Modi further added that under TMC rule, “Syndicate Raj” (mafia-style control) and illicit activities have proliferated—ills that must be eradicated.
