Deforming Mahatma Gandhi's Statue 'Outrageous': Donald Trump

Posted on 9th Jun 2020 12:18 pm by rohit kumar

US President Donald Trump has said that deforming the statue of Mahatma Gandhi by unknown people is disgraceful. Indeed, violent demonstrations took place in the United States a few days ago following the death of African-American black man George Floyd in police custody. Meanwhile, some protesters damaged the statue of Mahatma Gandhi by spray-painting it.

The incident took place outside the Indian Embassy in Washington DC on June 2 and June 3 at midnight. The embassy officials then filed a complaint with local law enforcement agencies. During remarks at the White House on Monday, Trump described the incident as abusive.

The Indian embassy has taken it up before the US State Department as well as the Metropolitan Police and the National Park Service for an initial investigation into the case. The US State Department, Metropolitan Police and the National Park Service are working together to restore the statue quickly.
