
New Delhi, Jan 10 (IANS) The government has exceeded its target of opening bank accounts before time under its flagship scheme 'Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana' and opened around 11 crore accounts, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Saturday.
"We had to open seven crore bank accounts by Jan 26, but I feel proud in saying that around 11 crore people have opened bank accounts till Jan 10 under the Jan Dhan Yojana," Modi said at a Bharatiya Janata Party rally in Delhi which is likely to hold assembly elections in February.
Over 19.5 lakh bank accounts have been opened in Delhi since the launch of the government's flagship financial inclusion scheme Aug 28, he said.
