After traditional medicine, the Climate Change and Health Initiative (CHI) will now be headquartered in India, which will be announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon. The government, in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), will prepare it for the G-20 countries, which will prepare policies, research, and health initiatives for all countries on the health impacts of climate change. Welcoming this initiative of India, all the countries have given written support in the meeting of G-20 Health Ministers held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Although China has not agreed to this from South Asia, the US has agreed to work under the leadership of India on climate change and health.

India will become a lifeline for small countries

Lav Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, Union Health Ministry said, recently there has been an agreement between India and ADB on climate change for 2023-2027, which will be headquartered in India. Climate change is a global crisis that affects everyone, but its consequences are particularly devastating for poor and vulnerable populations. India will be a lifeline for the low-income countries of the global south and will contribute to combating climate change.

Cause of 70% of infectious diseases

Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya said that the impact of climate change on health is profound. We are seeing that 70 percent of infectious diseases have become active due to climate change, which is called zoonotic diseases. Extreme weather events like cyclones, floods, and droughts are becoming fatal for people. The changing pattern of rainfall can lead to water scarcity. In such a situation, the government is starting this initiative for the cooperation of the public in India as well as at the global level.

7 million premature deaths due to air pollution

Air pollution is considered one of the biggest environmental risk factors of all types of pollution, causing about 7 million premature deaths every year.

The WHO estimates that nine out of 10 people worldwide are exposed to air containing high levels of pollutants.

In terms of M 2.5, 21 of the 30 most polluted cities are in India.

WHO will hold a global summit on traditional medicine every two years

The World Health Organization (WHO) will hold a global summit every two years to promote traditional medicine in the world. The second conference will also be held in India in 2025 when the WHO Global Center for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar, Gujarat is inaugurated. WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros said that many achievements were made under India's G-20 chairmanship. Things like telemedicine, and digital health are being worked on, which will prove to be very important in the coming times.

Europe, Netherlands, and Indonesia will also give Jan Aushadhi to patients

The G-20 countries have expressed their surprise at seeing cheap and affordable public medicines in India. The Health Ministers, who visited Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar Jan Aushadhi Kendras on Sunday, have announced that they will take Jan Aushadhi to their countries with India's cooperation. Health Ministers of Europe, Netherlands, and Indonesia even told Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya that we are ready to sign an agreement now to make public medicines available.

Cooperation sought from India

Indonesian Health Minister Budi G Sadikin said I want to provide the best medicines to the people of my country. I have seen many models in the world, but today the mass medicines of India and their price and quality have surprised me. We appeal to India to cooperate in providing people's medicines to the people of Indonesia. At the same time, Netherlands Health Minister Ernst Kuipers said that the medicines made in India are saving the lives of the people of the Netherlands and Europe. If patients get medicines for blood pressure, diabetes, and fever for less than US$ 0.50, it reduces the financial burden on them. We will also tie up with India to provide public medicines to the people of the Netherlands.
