29th day of Azerbaijan Armenia conflict: a fierce battle erupted again

Posted on 26th Oct 2020 02:44 pm by rohit kumar

A fierce battle between Azerbaijan and Armenia once again took place on Sunday in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Earlier, both countries accused each other of hindering the peaceful resolution of this dispute.

Armenia has accused the Azeri army of bombing civilian areas.

At the same time, Azerbaijan has denied the charge of killing the common people and said that it is ready to implement the ceasefire, but for this Armenian forces must first leave the battlefield.

A war between Azerbaijan and Armenia is going on since 27 September over Nagorno-Karabakh.

Internationally, this area is considered to be occupied by Azerbaijan, but a large number of people of Armenian origin live here.

The fighting has started at the end of this week when US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo held talks with the foreign ministers of both countries for a ceasefire on Friday.

In this war, the ceasefire has been tried twice by Russian mediation, but both the ceasefire did not last and the fight broke out again.

Local authorities in Nagorno-Karabakh have accused the Azeri army of firing artillery at settlements in the areas of Askarene and Martuni.

At the same time, Azerbaijan has alleged that its positions have been attacked with small arms, mortars, tanks, and howitzers.

Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev has said, "I have full faith in the effectiveness of the peace talks, but it also depends on the Armenian side".

In an interview with Fox News, he said, "The people of Azerbaijan and Armenia can live together in Georgia, Russia, Ukraine and other countries, but why can't live together in Nagorno-Karabakh?"

Armenian President Armen Sarkisian has accused Azerbaijan of being "aggressive and destructive".

The dispute has increased tensions between Turkey and its NATO allies. Mike Pompeo has accused Turkey of fomenting the conflict by giving weapons to the Azeri army. Turkey has rejected these allegations.

Before Friday's conversation, Pompeo said that he hoped that some way would be found to resolve the dispute.

Ceasefire appeal

Sarkisian has appealed to global forces to take immediate steps for a ceasefire. He said, "Russia is a reliable and active mediator between the two sides in the context of the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute. Russia has an important role in it."

Aliyev has said that it is dangerous for Armenia to seek military support from Russia and no third party should be militarily involved in the matter.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that he hopes that America will help Russia in resolving this dispute.

The Ministry of Defense of Nagorno-Karabakh has said on Saturday that the number of Armenians who died in this war has increased from 36 to 963.

Azerbaijan has said that 65 civilians have been killed and 298 injured in the fighting so far. However, Azerbaijan has not said anything about its soldiers killed.

America warns its citizens

America has warned its citizens living in Azerbaijan that they can be targeted.

The US said on Saturday that amidst the fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh, Americans living in Azerbaijan can be targeted by attackers and kidnappers.

The US embassy in Azerbaijan issued a warning on Twitter, writing, "The US embassy in Baku has received strong reports that potential extremists may attack US citizens and foreign nationals living here and kidnap them."

The embassy has asked its citizens to be vigilant and said that they should avoid going to crowded areas.

Also, the embassy has said that people should avoid going to places like hotels built in the capital where foreigners often visit.

Battle for possession in Nagorno-Karabakh

Earlier, the US embassy in Turkey issued a warning to its citizens living there, saying that they had received "strong information" that American citizens living in and around Istanbul could be attacked and abducted.

The news agency AFP says that it is not clear whether these two warnings have any connection with each other.

Since 27 September this year, Azerbaijan and Armenia are in the battleground for occupation in Nagorno-Karabakh, located in the Caucasus hills. In this case, Turkey supports Azerbaijan and believes that Nagorno-Karabakh is occupied by Armenian separatists.

Turkey has already warned Armenia to retreat from Nagorno-Karabakh.

Accusation on turkey

On Friday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called on the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia and urged them to "end violence as soon as possible and save the lives of ordinary citizens".

At this meeting, Armenia's Foreign Minister Zohrab Minatsakyan insisted that Azerbaijan is taking arms from its friend Turkey.

Earlier, Armenia Prime Minister Nicole Pashinyan and President Armen Sarkisian have said that Turkey is helping Azerbaijan in the war.

America has said so far that in this war it will neither favor Azerbaijan nor Armenia. But in a recent interview, Mike Pompeo criticized Turkey and said that Armenia is defending itself.

Both Azerbaijan and Armenia are accusing each other of targeting common people.

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that for the first time in the last two decades, there has been fierce violence between the two countries. Putin said that so far about five thousand people have died in this war.

Some things about Nagorno-Karabakh

Nagorno Karabakh is a mountainous area of 4,400 square kilometers i.e. 1,700 square miles.

Traditionally Christian Armenians and Turkic Muslims live here.

Before the disintegration of the Soviet Union, it became an autonomous region that was part of Azerbaijan.

Internationally, this area is recognized as part of Azerbaijan, but most of the population here is Armenian.

No member of the United Nations, including Armenia, recognizes any self-proclaimed officer.

The war, which lasted from the late 1980s to the late 1990s, killed more than 30,000 people. During that time, the separatist forces occupied some areas.

During that time, the separatist forces captured some areas of Nagorno-Karabakh. A ceasefire was declared here in 1994, even after that, the deadlock continues and often there is tension in the region.

A ceasefire took place here in 1994 after which the deadlock continued here.

Turkey openly supports Azerbaijan.

Russia has a military base here.

The battle between Azerbaijan and Armenia once again started on 27 September 2020 regarding this area.
