
In Haryana's famous 19-year-old Ranjit Singh murder case, a special CBI court in Panchkula has sentenced five convicts, including Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, to life imprisonment. Along with this, the court imposed a fine of Rs 31 lakh on Ram Rahim and Rs 50,000 on the rest of the accused.
The CBI court had on October 8 held five people, including Dera chief Gurmeet Singh, guilty in the case and reserved the verdict. The Dera chief has been sentenced for the third time by the CBI court in different cases. Apart from Gurmeet Ram Rahim, the culprits include Kishan Lal, Jasbir Singh, Avtar Singh, and Sabdil. Another accused in this murder case had died a year ago.
Former Dera manager Ranjit Singh was shot dead in 2002. He was murdered for his suspected role in circulating an anonymous letter. In this letter, it was told how the Dera chief abuses women in the Dera headquarters. After which the CBI investigated the matter and the court has now convicted five people and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
In the Ranjit murder case, the court had convicted under section 302, 120B of IPC. Avtar, Sabdil, and Jasveer were convicted under sections 302 and 120B of the IPC and the Arms Act. After this, on October 12, the court had postponed the order of punishment of the culprits in this case till October 18.
