For the first time since the onset of corona infection in the country, the number of active cases has crossed 1 lakh in a day. According to the data given by the government on Monday, 1,03,558 new cases of corona were registered across the country in the last 24 hours and 478 people have died during this period. With this, currently, the number of active cases in the country has crossed 7 lakh to 7,41,830. Earlier on February 12, this figure was 135,926 only. In this way, the number of active cases has increased by more than 6 lakhs in less than 2 months. For the past 26 days, the number of active corona cases in the country has been steadily increasing.
Situation critical in Punjab and Maharashtra
Official data shows that Maharashtra (where new restrictions have been imposed to stop the fastest growing virus) and Punjab are at the forefront of the total number of new Covid-19 cases and deaths across the country in the last 15 days. Here, Maharashtra has reported 426,108 Covid-19 cases in the last two weeks till 31 March. Punjab recorded 35,754 cases in the same period.
Night curfew in Maharashtra
At the same time, the Maharashtra government on Sunday announced the implementation of the lockdown from eight o'clock on Friday night to seven in the morning on the weekend, because of the fast-growing coronavirus infection in the state. Also, announced to introduce nighttime curfew from Monday to 30 April.
Apart from this, strict restrictions like shutting down of private offices, theaters and salons, etc. will also be implemented to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection. The Chief Minister's Office said in a statement that the lockdown will remain in force from eight o'clock on Friday night to seven in the morning on Monday. Besides, prohibitory orders will be enforced under Section 144 on all days of the week.
According to the statement, apart from shops connected to essential services, medical stores, and grocery stores, all other shops, markets, and shopping malls will remain closed till April 30. All these new restrictions will be effective from 8 pm on Monday. It was decided to implement all these restrictions during a special meeting of the cabinet held through video conference on Sunday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
11 states in the 'serious' category
The Health Ministry has said that 11 states - Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, and Haryana - have been classified as "severe" based on Corona's fast-growing daily cases.
