In the 50th match of IPL 2026, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) faced off against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Tasked with chasing down a target of 213 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis method, the RCB team suffered a major blow when their star batsman, Virat Kohli, returned to the pavilion without scoring a single run. In this match, played at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow secured a victory by a margin of nine runs.
Dismissed for a Duck After 46 Innings
Prince dismissed Kohli by clean bowling him with a superb delivery, sending him back to the pavilion. This marked the first time in 46 IPL innings that Virat was dismissed for a score of zero. The last time Kohli was dismissed for a ‘duck’ was in 2023, during a match against the Rajasthan Royals. Furthermore, this was the first time since 2017 that Kohli was dismissed for a duck while chasing a target. In 2017, while chasing against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Kohli had been dismissed without opening his account.
What Prince Yadav Said About the Wicket
Speaking about dismissing Virat for a duck, Prince said, “I misfielded on the very first ball, but I knew I had to put that behind me and not lose my focus. After the previous match, I was speaking with Virat bhaiya (brother), and he simply told me: ‘As long as the ball is moving off the pitch, stick to that specific length.’ We have lost six consecutive matches, but we will continue to work hard going forward.”
Lucknow’s Innings
Due to time lost because of rain interruptions, the match was reduced in overs and was played as a 19-over-per-side contest. The Lucknow Super Giants posted a total of 209 runs on the scoreboard for the loss of three wickets in their allotted 19 overs. Mitchell Marsh and Arshin Kulkarni provided LSG with a brilliant start, adding 95 runs for the first wicket. Arshin scored 17 runs off 24 balls. Meanwhile, Nicholas Pooran contributed a splendid 38 runs off just 23 balls with his aggressive batting. Marsh and Pooran combined to forge a magnificent 70-run partnership for the second wicket off just 41 balls. Marsh continued his blistering batting from one end, completing his century in 49 deliveries. Facing 56 balls, Marsh played a commanding innings of 111 runs. During this innings, Marsh struck nine fours and nine towering sixes.
In the final overs, LSG captain Rishabh Pant played an unbeaten cameo of 32 runs off just 10 balls—striking at a rate of 320—aided by four fours and two sixes. Aiden Markram remained unbeaten on one run. The RCB bowlers appeared to struggle throughout this contest. Josh Hazlewood claimed one wicket in his four-over spell while conceding 49 runs. Meanwhile, Rasikh Salam took one wicket in his four overs, giving away 53 runs.
RCB’s Innings
Chasing a target of 213 runs—revised under the Duckworth-Lewis method—RCB could only manage to score 203 runs for the loss of six wickets in 19 overs. This marked LSG’s third victory of the season. For RCB, Jacob Bethell fell victim to Mohammed Shami after scoring just four runs. Subsequently, Prince Yadav dismissed Kohli, sending him back to the pavilion. However, after losing two wickets with the score at just nine runs, Devdutt Padikkal and captain Rajat Patidar took charge of the innings. Together, the duo built a crucial 95-run partnership for the third wicket off 53 balls. Padikkal was dismissed after scoring 34 runs off 25 balls. Meanwhile, batting brilliantly, Rajat played a powerful innings of 61 runs off 31 balls. During his innings, Rajat hit three fours and six sixes.
