
The torture of winter continues. Cold waves prevailed in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan. It is expected to continue for two more days. Meanwhile, life was affected due to fog in 14 states. The speed of trains was also low, due to which they reached their destinations late by hours. A drop in minimum temperatures has been recorded in most areas of North India. Due to the western disturbance, there is a possibility of rain and thundershowers in northwest and central India between January 8-10.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that severe to severe cold conditions may persist in Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana on Monday also. After that, the temperature will increase slightly and there will be relief from the cold. According to the Meteorological Department, fog conditions persist in 14 states. These include Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha. Apart from this, dense fog has also been predicted in Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura in the Northeast.
Yellow alert of haze in Himachal today
There are chances of change in weather once again due to western disturbance in Himachal. A yellow smog alert has been issued in the entire state on Monday. Light rain and snowfall are forecast across the state on Tuesday and in central and high mountain areas on Wednesday. On January 11 and 12, the weather will again be clear and sunny. It is extremely cold in the plains of the state due to mist and fog. There is silence in the markets in the morning and evening. A drought-like situation prevails in the state. Wheat, pea, and apple crops are being damaged due to snowfall and lack of rain, while gardeners are not able to plant new saplings.
Mercury below 10 in most cities of Punjab-Haryana
Amritsar in Punjab has not got a respite from the severe cold. Last night also the temperature here was 5.8 degrees. Ludhiana, Patiala, Pathankot, Bathinda, Faridkot, and Gurdaspur also recorded minimum temperatures between 6-9 degrees Celsius. Given the severe cold, the Punjab government has ordered all schools in the state up to class 10 to remain closed till January 14. Bhiwani, Haryana had the lowest temperature of 6.7 degrees. Whereas in Ambala, Narnaul, Hisar, and Karnal the temperature was recorded between 7-9 degrees. The minimum temperature in Sikar, Rajasthan came down to 2.0 degrees.
Coldest night in Jammu and Srinagar
Cold wave has engulfed Jammu and the coldest of the season was felt in the area on Saturday night. The minimum temperature dropped to 3.4 degrees Celsius. Banihal town in Jammu region recorded the lowest temperature of minus 2.2 degrees Celsius. The night temperature in Katra was 6 degrees. Srinagar is already experiencing severe cold, but Saturday night was the coldest night of this season and the minimum temperature was recorded at minus 5.6 degrees Celsius. Due to the cold, people's daily activities have almost come to a standstill and people are forced to hide in their homes to avoid the cold. Dal Lake has already frozen due to a severe cold. This has brought fun to the tourists and they are enjoying the snow on the water. The Meteorological Department has predicted that the temperature will remain below zero this entire week.
How will the weather be in which state?
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the effect of a new western disturbance will be visible in northwest India from Monday. Due to this, light rain is expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh on January 8 and 9. Talking about Central India, there is a possibility of light rain in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and northern parts of Maharashtra. On the other hand, a rain alert has also been issued in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh of South India on Monday.
