new Delhi. There is a race between Corona rising figures between Delhi and Mumbai that no one would want to win. These are the two metros that have been most affected by the Corona infection. Of the total corona cases reported across the country, about 30 percent are from these two cities only.
The first case of Corona was reported on 2 March in Delhi. At the same time, the first case was registered in Mumbai 9 days later, but then the infection spread very fast. The situation became such that by the end of May a total of 39,686 cases had been registered in Mumbai. While at this time the total number of infected in Delhi was 19,844. That is, about half as compared to Mumbai.
This was the time when the lockdown was being followed strictly throughout the country. However, by June, the sounds of loosening the lockdown had begun to intensify. Chief among them was Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who was vigorously advocating for the end of the lockdown. But the removal of lockdown has proved to be the deadliest for Delhi itself.
While the total number of infected in Delhi was below 20 thousand by the end of May, it increased by about 50 thousand in June and it crossed 70 thousand. With these figures, Delhi overtook Mumbai to become the city with the most corona infected.
Death toll from corona
With the removal of the lockdown, the death toll from Corona in Delhi has also increased by almost 5 times. By the end of May, there were a total of 473 deaths due to Corona in Delhi. But at the beginning of June, this figure increased so fast that almost doubled in the first eight days of the month and by June 15, a total of 1400 people died due to this infection.
This trend of deaths from corona in the last ten days is almost at a rapid pace. As of 26 June, a total of 2 thousand 429 people in Delhi have lost their lives due to Corona. However, this figure is still much lower than in Mumbai where more than four thousand people have died from this infection. Talking about the death rate, it is also close to 3 percent in Delhi whereas in Mumbai it is 5 percent.
One of the reasons for the increasing cases is the speed in the test
The number of corona infected in Delhi is the highest in the country. But, many experts believe that it is not the uncontrollable situation of Delhi but the increasing test is the main reason behind it. In the past few weeks, daily testing in Delhi has been increased to three times. Earlier, on an average, only 5-6 thousand people were getting corona test daily, while now more than 16 thousand people are being tested daily. This testing figure is much higher as compared to Mumbai.
Addressing the press on Friday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, "We have increased the capacity of corona testing by 3-4 times but only about 3000 cases are increasing every day. About 45 thousand people have been cured in total patients. ”He also said that at present there are 26 thousand active cases in the state.
He said, 'Despite the arrival of three thousand cases daily, six thousand people have been admitted to hospitals in the last one week. Corona infections in Delhi are mild and do not require hospitalization. We currently have 13,500 beds ready. "
Door to Door Testing in Containment Zone
Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said on Friday that testing will be done in every house in every Delhi's Containment Zone. At present, there are a total of 227 containment zones in Delhi. Sisodia, speaking to a media group, said that under the government's new Covid Response Plan, all people living in the containment zone will be compulsorily corona tested. We are also going to start anti-body tests in Delhi from 27th June. Through this test, you will know whether a person has already been cured after being infected with the coronavirus. '
Recognizing the experiences of the past one week, Manish Sisodia has said, "Earlier we were testing about 6 to 7 thousand people every day, out of which about two thousand people got positive. But now about 18 thousand tests are being done every day and out of them, about 3 thousand people are getting positive. This is a good sign. The recovery rate of patients in Delhi has also been better than before. It has now increased from 41 percent to 58 percent. Apart from this, the growth rate of coronavirus cases in Delhi has also come down from 5.8 percent to 4.9 percent.
Public traffic big challenge
The Delhi Metro, called Lifeline of Delhi, has been closed for the last three months. The Delhi Metro has not given any information about when it will start. About 15 lakh people travel daily in the Delhi Metro on normal days and this metro takes more than 2700 trips every day. Delhi Metro is completely closed due to Corona infection and this has made the local traffic in the state extremely difficult.
In such a situation, the entire load of passengers has come on DTC buses. But these are also being run in limited numbers. DTC has about 6 thousand buses, half of which are currently running. Of these, around 700 buses have been given to the police for special duty. The remaining buses are running for passengers, but taking care of social distancing, only 20 passengers per bus can ride in these buses. Therefore, most of the buses are full before reaching the bus stand.
Why are these buses being run in such small numbers? When asked this question, a DTC official said, "Many of our drivers are from the Containment Zone, so they are unable to come." Some have turned out to be Corona positive and many are above 55 years. But still, our effort is that at the time of coming and going to the office, at least we can take out more buses. '
Delhi schools will remain closed till 31 July
Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia announced after a high-level meeting on Friday that all schools in Delhi will remain completely closed till 31 July. It was also discussed in this meeting that the syllabus can be reduced by 50 percent this year. The purpose of this meeting was also to decide what kind of preparation is necessary for the schools to be opened after the corona transition. In this regard, the Delhi government had also sought suggestions from many teachers and parents.
The main among these suggestions was that only one or two classes of limited students should be conducted in a week, this should be on alternate days, all classes should be sanitized, students should be given masks, thermal screening of every student while entering school Yes, the syllabus should be reduced, more and more classes should be done online and group activities should be banned. Discussing all these suggestions, the Education Minister has said that keeping these in mind, we will try to create a plan that teaches students to live with Corona and also prepares them for new challenges.
