Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar has said that if India gets Rishabh Pant to open in white-ball cricket, then it will benefit the team. Although it will be a bit difficult for Pant. Because till now more have been seen in the role of finisher. Gavaskar believes that Rishabh Pant should be promoted to the top order of the batting order in limited-overs formats, as Australia did with Gilchrist, who batted lower down the order in Tests.
Sunil Gavaskar told Sports Today, "Not a bad choice. See what Adam Gilchrist did for Australia in the white-ball cricket team. He used to bat at number 6 or 7 in Test cricket, but he was dangerous when opening in white-ball cricket. Maybe someone as deadly as Rishabh Pant will get more overs to play.
“We are talking about him as a finisher, but then he comes in there, starts hitting the ball, and is out immediately. Here, he will come to know that he does not have to flaunt the opposition bowlers from the very first ball. He will play a few balls first. In England, the white ball will move a little more than anywhere else. It can work in India's favour."
Earlier, former Indian batsman Wasim Jaffer also believes that Rishabh Pant should be allowed to open for India in the T20 format. He said, "Indian think tanks should think about opening with Rishabh Pant in T20Is. I think this is where he can blossom."
