Amritpal Singh: 'The government will have to give relief', lawyer claims on bail of imprisoned Khalistani Amritpal Singh

The results of the Lok Sabha elections have been announced across the country. Jailed Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh won the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat. Now his lawyer Rajdev Singh Khalsa said that Amritpal's efforts were towards ending drug abuse in Punjab.

Forced to give relief

Insisting on Singh's bail, Khalsa said that the legal strategy is moving forward. He expressed confidence that both the BJP and AAP governments will be forced to give relief to Singh due to public support.

Singh's arrest was wrong and unethical

The lawyer further said, 'The strategy ahead is to get bail. The government will have to give him relief because there is no option. Both the BJP and AAP governments will be forced to do so. Amritpal Singh was making Punjab drug-free. The people have shown that Singh's arrest is wrong and unethical.'

Hindu-Sikh tension false

Criticizing Singh's arrest by the Bhagwant Mann government, Khalsa termed it dishonest and insisted that the story of law and order issues and Hindu-Sikh tension was false.

Won by this margin of votes

After his victory in the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat, Amritpal Singh's wife and lawyer went to Dibrugarh jail to meet him on Wednesday. Singh took a significant lead with 4,04,430 votes. Singh's closest rival in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was Congress candidate Kulbir Singh Zira, who got 2,07,310 votes.

Who won last time?

Amritpal Singh was arrested by Punjab Police in April last year, weeks after he fled from the police and invoked the National Security Act against him. In 2019, Jasbir Singh Gill of the Congress won from Khadoor Sahib. The BJP has fielded Manjit Singh Manna from the seat. The AAP had fielded Laljit Singh Bhullar and the Shiromani Akali Dal had fielded Virsa Singh Valtoha.
