Anna Hazare Strike: Anna Hazare's hunger strike was postponed against the liquor policy of the Maharashtra government, told this reason

Social activist Anna Hazare had announced an indefinite hunger strike from Monday last week against the Maharashtra government's decision to allow the sale of liquor in supermarkets and grocery stores. But now they have decided to postpone their proposed hunger strike.

Hazare said, “I have decided to postpone my proposed hunger strike against the liquor policy of the Maharashtra government. I received a letter from the secretary of the department concerned in which he assured me that the decision of the people would be considered before implementing the policy."

Significantly, last week, Hazare wrote a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, in which the people of the state demanded that the policy allowing the sale of liquor at supermarkets and walk-in shops should be immediately implemented. be withdrawn. During a meeting held in his village on Sunday, Hazare said that there are plenty of beer bars, permit rooms, and shops to sell liquor, then why does the government want to sell it in supermarkets and grocery stores? He asked, does he want to spread this addiction?

The activist claimed, "During discussions with Maharashtra government officials, I told them that I did not wish to stay in the state, following which the government started reconsidering its decision." Hazare said that liquor is not the culture of Maharashtra, where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj used to live.

"Selling liquor in supermarkets will destroy our culture," he said. Hazare told that when the state government officials came to meet him, I told him that he should have kept the views of the people in mind before deciding on the liquor policy. There is the democracy here, not a dictatorship. Therefore, a decision should be taken only after inviting suggestions and objections from citizens, and people should be given three months to express their views.
