Dinesh Gunawardene has become the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. President Ranil Wickremesinghe appointed him as the Prime Minister. Gunawardene has been the Education Minister. He was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Relations after the 2020 parliamentary election. He has been a classmate of Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The pair of Wickremesinghe and Gunawardene now have the burden of getting Sri Lanka out of the economic crisis.

Protests intensify against new President in Sri Lanka

Here, even after Ranil Wickremesinghe became the President, peace has not been restored in Sri Lanka. Describing him as the pawn of Gotabaya, the protesters have intensified the agitation. The force and hundreds of protesters clashed in Galle Face, outside the premises of Sri Lanka's presidential secretariat in Colombo late Thursday.

Armed troops were deployed outside the premises of the President's Secretariat to control the protesters. To control the demonstration, the soldiers started tearing down the tents of the protesters, and they became furious. The protesters gathered on Galle Face and started shouting slogans against the government.

The protesters said- Ranil Wickremesinghe wants to destroy us, he is doing it again, but we will never give up. Amidst the action of the armed forces, a protester said- We want to make our country free from such cheap politics.

People again on the streets as soon as Ranil became the President

Amidst the economic and political crisis, the Sri Lankan Parliament on 20 July elected former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as the new President. Despite this, protests are still going on on the streets. The protesters allege that the Rajapaksa family has put Wickremesinghe on the throne as their pawn. This is not going to change the situation. He said that the Rajapaksa clan has made a deal with Wickremesinghe to save his throne. This is cheating with people.

The condition of the country is not improving

Professor MG Tharaka of Galle Face Colombo says that during the last three months, the leaders involved in the government have made claims about many things to improve the situation, but the ground situation has not improved. Now people have no faith in the Rajapaksa family and any leader they have installed. Protesters believe the Rajapaksa family wants to shield themselves from charges by placing Ranil Wickremesinghe as the president of Sri Lanka.

Former PM Mahinda saw for the first time after two months

Former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa appeared in the House for the first time in two months during voting for the new President. Mahinda was in a secret hideout for so long. After former President Gotabaya fled to Singapore, there were speculations that Mahinda might also flee from Sri Lanka. Chamal and Namal of the Rajapakse clan also reached the Parliament for voting.
