Before Army Day, Army Chief General Manoj Pandey said that this time's event is special. Because this is the 75th year of independence. During this, he answered questions on many issues. Regarding the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the army chief said the ceasefire in February 2021 is continuing well there, but cross-border support for terrorism and terror infrastructure persists. The situation on the northern borders is stable but unpredictable, he said. We have been able to resolve five out of the seven issues. We have continued to talk both at the military and diplomatic levels. We have adequate reserves to meet any contingency.
While talking about the situation in the Northeast, he said that there is peace in most of the northeastern states. Economic activities and development initiatives have yielded good results. He said about Army Day, this Army Day is also special because it is the 75th year of independence.
Enemy-equal deployment on the Chinese border
The deployment by the opposing side is going on along the northern border, the army chief said. We have an equal number of soldiers. Unlike our Eastern Command, there has been a slight increase in the number of troops by China but we are keeping a close watch.
There will be many changes in the army
The Army Chief said women officers will be commissioned in the Corps of Artillery of the Indian Army. For this, we have sent a proposal to the government and we hope that it will be accepted. We also have Army Martial Arts Routine (AMAR), which will help in handling combat situations. It is an amalgamation of various martial arts in the country. The Army Chief said, we have decided to make several changes in the Indian Army and it is essentially spread across five major domains starting from Force Restructuring and Adaptation, Modernization and Technology, and Human Resource Management.
The army chief also spoke on Joshimath
On the Joshimath landslide, Army Chief said, we have temporarily shifted our jawans. If required, we will permanently station our jawans in Auli. There are some cracks on the Joshimath to Mana road which BRO is repairing. This has not affected our operational readiness. As far as providing help to the local people is concerned, we have given our hospitals, and helipads to the civil administration so that they can temporarily shift the people, he said.
