Ravichandran Ashwin played an important role in the Test series win against England. After the last Test in Dharamshala, when head coach Rahul Dravid was asked about the best moment of the series, he described Ashwin's comeback in the Rajkot Test as the best. He had to suddenly return home on the second day of the third Test in Rajkot. Then BCCI did not give much information and cited family emergency.
Later it was revealed that Ashwin's mother had fallen unconscious and her condition was bad. In such a situation, Ashwin suddenly returned after leaving the Rajkot Test midway. However, when everything became normal by the fourth day of the Test, Ashwin returned to the match. Now this veteran spinner has exposed that incident. He has told the whole story on his YouTube channel. He also told how captain Rohit Sharma had helped him a lot. Ashwin has described Rohit as equal to Mahendra Singh Dhoni as a captain.
Ashwin called Rohit a great captain
Ashwin said- When I came to know about the entire incident on the second day of the third Test in Rajkot, I was not able to think of anything. Staying like this, it was 9:30 in the night. If I were also the captain, I would tell my players to go home. However, what Rohit did was different. They asked someone to accompany me home and the whole way the person with me kept asking about my condition and whether I was okay or not. It was incredible. I can see a great captain in Rohit. I can't express my feelings on this. I have played under many captains over the years, but there is something different in Rohit. His heart is clean, and that is why he has been able to win five trophies in IPL, which is equal to Dhoni. God does not give such achievements to anyone quickly. I just want Rohit to get more success. Thinking so much about someone, understanding him and his problems, and then taking care of him, Rohit did a lot. It is very difficult to find such a person in this selfish world.
Ashwin told about the entire incident
37-year-old Ashwin's mother had fallen unconscious and was admitted to the ICU in Chennai. Recalling this incident on his YouTube channel, the Indian spinner said- We went to the dressing room after the match and then went to our respective rooms. Rohit, I, and some other players were talking about the match. Then I realized that I did not get a call from my family and wife today. I thought he would be busy talking to someone or giving an interview. I called my wife Preeti at seven in the evening and asked why Mom and dad were not answering the call. Preeti's voice was trembling. He asked to talk to me privately. Preeti said that her mother had a headache and she suddenly became unconscious and fell on the ground.
Ashwin was stunned
Ashwin told me- I was stunned then. I couldn't think of anything. I didn't know how to react or what questions to ask. I was crying but making sure no one saw me crying. Wrong thoughts were coming to my mind. I couldn't think of anything. I kept crying for a long time after reaching my room. Then the physio came to my room because I was not picking up his calls. Rahul Dravid and Rohit also came to my room and I just told them that I am not able to think of anything at the moment.
Pujara helped Ashwin in the flight
Ashwin told- After this, I started searching for a flight, but I did not find any flight. Rajkot airport closes at 6 pm. There are no flights there after 6 pm. I couldn't understand what to do. Rohit and Dravid Bhai came to my room. Rohit told me not to think about anything. He told me to go to my family immediately. He started arranging a chartered flight for me. Many thanks to Cheteshwar Pujara. He found some flights in Ahmedabad and asked him to come to Rajkot and pick me up. Pujara made arrangements for my travel. I don't know how two hours passed.
Rohit sent physio home with Ashwin
Ashwin said, 'Rohit did something different. He asked our physio Kamlesh to travel with me to Chennai. Kamlesh is one of the two physios on the team. During our journey to the airport, Rohit kept calling repeatedly and asked Kamlesh to be always present with me. Ashwin was the highest wicket-taker in the five-match Test series against England. He took 26 wickets. These include two five-wicket hauls. Along with this, 100 tests were also completed. He became the fourth bowler in the world to take a wicket in his 100th Test. He took nine wickets in the Dharamsala Test, which is the best bowling performance by a bowler in his 100th Test.
