Australia's Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs are removing surveillance cameras made by Chinese companies from their facilities. The foreign minister said on Friday that the technology posed a security risk following reports.

The cameras are being removed as the two countries try to improve diplomatic relations. In fact, in 2018, relations between the two countries deteriorated due to Australia's decision to ban Chinese tech giant Huawei from its 5G broadband network.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong said in an interview with state media ABC, "We are removing them. I have asked my department to quickly replace these cameras. The Defense Minister has asked the Ministry of Defense to ensure that Chinese cameras should be removed and replaced."

Relations with China will not be affected – Defense Minister

Defense Minister Richard Marles said Chinese-made security cameras installed under the previous government had been removed from his ministry. He said he did not expect it to impact relations with China.

He told reporters, “We take steps for our security, which the country is fully entitled to. We value a productive relationship with China. China is our biggest trading partner."

Ban on Chinese products in Britain and America as well

Explain that Britain had cited security risks to its government departments in November. Along with this, it was asked to stop installing surveillance cameras connected to China in sensitive buildings. At the same time, some US states have banned the sellers and products of many Chinese companies.
