
West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose will visit Murshidabad today. After meeting the victims, the Governor will also send a report related to the law and order of the state to the central government. Apart from the Governor, a team from the National Commission for Women will also visit Murshidabad. Earlier on Friday, the Governor had visited Malda and met the victims of violence there.
Visit to violence-affected areas of Murshidabad today.
A senior official said that West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose will visit the riot-affected areas of Shamsherganj in Murshidabad district on Saturday and review the situation and talk to the affected people. He said that Bose would then visit other violence-affected areas in Dhuliyan, Suti, and Jangipur in the district. Violence broke out during demonstrations against the Waqf Act in these Muslim-dominated areas from 8 to 12 April. At least three people have died in this violence. More than 274 people have been arrested in connection with the violence.
The governor will talk to some members of the affected families at the guest house in Farakka before going to Shamsherganj, where he has been staying since Friday night, the official said. Despite Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's request to postpone his visit, Governor CV Anand Bose reached Malda on Friday and met people who fled from violence-hit areas of Murshidabad and have taken shelter in Malda at a temporary refugee camp.
The Women's Commission team also reached Murshidabad today.
Meanwhile, National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar also started her visit to Malda and Murshidabad on Friday with her team. Speaking to the media in Kolkata, Rahatkar said, "We have received information that women are not being treated properly in the affected areas and relief camps. The NCW has formed an inquiry committee. We will talk to the victims and assess the situation before submitting a detailed report." The team of the NCW also reached Murshidabad today. After this, on Sunday, the commission's team will also meet the Governor, Chief Secretary, and Director General of Police in Kolkata.
