Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the 5th BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) conference on Wednesday. This year's BIMSTEC summit is being organized by Sri Lanka. The entire program will take place virtually. A meeting of senior officials was held on March 28 to prepare for BIMSTEC. The next day i.e. on March 29, there was a meeting of the Foreign Ministers.
In this meeting, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar called upon the seven-member countries (India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Thailand, and Nepal) to formulate a collective policy against terrorism and violent extremism.
The challenges of terrorism cannot be ignored
In the meeting held on Tuesday, S Jaishankar said that we cannot ignore the challenges of terrorism and violent extremism. Similarly, drug trade and cyber attacks are also big challenges. We should have a legal framework so that our legal investigative agencies can have a closer and more effective liaison against such challenges.
What is BIMSTEC?
