New Delhi, Feb 10 (IANS) As the BJP headed to the opposition benches in the Delhi assembly, state party president Satish Upadhyay said Tuesday the party will "introspect" on the "unexpected defeat" in the polls.
Likely to get just three of the 70 assembly seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is unlikely to get the status of the main opposition party.
Asked about this, Upadhyay refused to answer.
"I would not like to comment on this (being the main opposition party) because we will introspect and analyze this unexpected defeat first... We will talk about it later," said Upadhyay.
According to rules, a party needs 10 percent of total seats to be deemed as the main opposition party. The final decision, however, rests with the speaker of the assembly.
The 16th Lok Sabha has no main opposition party as the Congress, the largest opposition party, has only 44 seats, less than 10 percent of the 543 elected members.
