The budget session of the Parliament is going to start today. The budget session will be held in two phases. The first session will run from January 31 to February 13, while the second phase will run from March 13 to April 6. There will be a total of 27 sittings in the 66-day long budget session. The budget session will begin with the address of President Draupadi Murmu. The President will address a joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament. President Draupadi Murmu will address the joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for the first time.

 

The Central Government will present the Economic Survey or Economic Survey on 31 January. The Economic Survey is prepared by the Chief Economic Advisor. It is presented in Parliament just a day before the presentation of the budget. Economic survey reveals the economic condition of the country.

 

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the general budget for the financial year 2023-24 in Parliament on February 1 at 11 am. This will be the last full-time budget of the current central government.

 

There will be a debate on this after the budget is presented. After the debate, the House adjourns for a few days. During this period, the Standing Committees of the Parliament scrutinize the demand for grants in detail. Then a report is also prepared.

 

This time also the general budget will be paperless. Paperless budgeting was started during the budget of 2021-22.

 

The central government will aim to get the budget passed. The government will try to pass several bills related to electoral reforms including the Higher Education Commission of India.

 

The central government plans to bring about 36 bills, including four bills related to budgetary exercises, during the budget session.

 

The central government called an all-party meeting on Monday. During this, several parties including RJD, Left, AAP, and National Conference raised various issues.

 

ANI quoted AAP sources as saying that the party will boycott the President's address today. Party MPs will remain outside the Parliament House at the time of the address.

 

Several flights have been canceled due to heavy snowfall in Srinagar. Because of this, many Congress leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge will not be able to be present in the House during the President's address.
