Pollution in Delhi continues to worsen, and with the onset of winter, air quality has once again reached dangerous levels. Like every year, the capital's skies are shrouded in a blanket of haze, and the increased levels of pollutants in the air are causing residents to experience eye irritation, breathing difficulties, and reduced visibility.
Experts say that the weather, local emissions, and pollutants from neighboring cities are contributing to the worsening situation.
The capital's AQI was 372 on Tuesday.
According to the CPCB, Delhi's AQI rose to 372 on Tuesday, significantly worse than Monday's 304 and Sunday's 279. The AQI at 16 out of 39 monitoring stations exceeded 400, falling into the "severe" category.
These include Burari, Anand Vihar, Vivek Vihar, Mundka, Bawana, Rohini, and Punjabi Bagh.
According to the Decision Support System, vehicles contributed 18.4% to the capital's pollution, while industries contributed 9.2%. Emissions from Noida, Ghaziabad, Baghpat, Gurugram, and Panipat also contributed to the increase. The Meteorological Department (IMD) says that slow winds blowing from the southwest have reduced the spread of pollution, and the situation is expected to remain in the "very poor" to "severe" category.
The situation remains serious.
Air quality remained extremely poor on Wednesday morning, with the AQI recorded at dangerous levels in many areas. Wazirpur was the most polluted, with an AQI of 482, which indicates a "severe plus" category. The situation remained worrisome in RK Puram, with an AQI of 427, while Rohini remained in the "very poor" category with 378.
Experts say that industrial activities, dense population, and slow air in these areas are increasing the accumulation of pollutants, due to which there is little hope of relief at present.
