Canister launch of Nuke-capable Agni-V Missile Successful

Bhubaneswar, Jan 31 (IANS) India Saturday successfully conducted the first canister-based trial of its most powerful and nuclear capable missile, the Agni-V, from a military base in Odisha, official said.

The 5000 km-plus range missile, which has the ability to hit targets deep inside China and Pakistan was test fired from Inner Wheeler Island, a launch site at Bhadrak, about 200 km from Bhubaneswar.

This was the third launch of the missile, but the first from a canister.

"It is a canisterised version of the Agni-V missile. It was tested for the first time. The test was successful," test range director MVKV Prasad told IANS.
