Charge increased on main accused Chauvin, 3 other policemen will also be tried

Washington. The third-degree charge of murder on police officer Derek Chauvin, the main accused in the case of the death of black George Floyd, has now been increased to second degree. Second degree charge will also remain intact. In addition, 3 other policemen, Thomas Lane, Jay Alexander Kung and Tau Thao, will be charged with second-degree murder with co-operation and abetment in the murder. No charge was previously imposed on these three.

MP Amy Klobuchar reported Wednesday that Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison decided to increase the charge on the accused. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has reacted strongly in this matter. He said that I was surprised by the death of George Floyd during his arrest in America. My message to President Trump and all of America is that racial violence should have no place in our society. Most people of the world believe the same.

New allegations leveled in the interest of justice: Attorney General

Attorney General Keith Ellison, while announcing the increase of the charge, said it was in the interest of justice. He also said that it would be difficult to punish a former police officer. History tells that there are tough challenges. So far in Minnesota, only one police officer has been convicted of killing a civilian.

Floyd was arrested on 25 May

On May 25, Floyd was arrested by police in Minneapolis on charges of fraud. Earlier, police officer Derek Chauvin nabbed Floyd on the road and held his neck with his knee for about eight minutes. Floyd had handcuffs in his hands. In this, 46-year-old George continued to plead with the police officer to remove his knee. In the video he said, 'Your knee is on my neck. I am not able to breathe…. "Gradually, his movement stops. After this, the officer says, 'Get up and sit in the car', then there is no response. During this time a large crowd gathered around. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died.
