A health expert has said that these figures do not include many people who died at home. Also, it does not include those who died especially in rural areas. Rural hospitals and clinics are being boosted by supplies of medicines and other equipment ahead of the Lunar New Year holidays that begin on January 21. A doctor in Shanxi province told that the peak of infection in his area is over, but the elderly are at risk of infection. If anti-viral and other drugs were in abundance, it would have been better for them. At the same time, China's National Health Commission has said that along with fever medicines and oxygen supplies, it will equip every village clinic with pulse oximeters, and fingertip devices.

A separate train service has been started for passengers going from China's most populous city Shanghai to Anhui province. At the same time, the government in Hong Kong has said that they will allow 65,000 people to cross the border every day between January 18 and January 21.
