When the Aam Aadmi Party came to power in 2013, its leader Arvind Kejriwal became the Chief Minister and he remained the Chief Minister till mid-2024 in the third term of AAP's rule, AAP made Atishi the Chief Minister.

At the same time, BJP made Dr. Harsh Vardhan the Leader of the Opposition in 2013, Vijender Gupta from 2015 to 2020 and Ramveer Singh Bidhuri from 2020 to 2024. After he became an MP in 2024, Vijender Gupta was given the responsibility of Leader of Opposition.
