Pakistan suffered another major batting collapse against England, getting bowled out for just 133 runs in 33.5 overs on Day 1 of the third Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Josh Tongue was the pick of the England bowlers, claiming four wickets for 42 runs, while Ollie Robinson and Jofra Archer picked up three wickets each.

 

Pakistan's top order failed once again, with only three batters reaching double figures. Saud Shakeel was the team's top scorer with 43, while Mohammad Abbas contributed 21 and debutant Razaullah made 11.

 

In reply, England reached 156/4 in 39 overs at stumps, securing a 23-run first-innings lead. Harry Brook remained unbeaten on 52, while Emilio Gay scored 60 before being dismissed by debutant Razaullah.

 

Pakistan Bowled Out for 133 in 33.5 Overs

 

England won the toss and elected to bowl first under challenging conditions at Edgbaston. The decision paid off immediately as Pakistan's batting line-up collapsed.

 

Pakistan lost four wickets for just 26 runs inside the opening hour. Saim Ayub was dismissed for a duck by Ollie Robinson, who also completed his 100th Test wicket with the dismissal. Azan Awais, Abdullah Shafique and Shan Masood soon followed.

 

Pakistan never recovered and were eventually dismissed for 133 after just 33.5 overs.

 

Babar Azam Bowled for 7 as Pakistan Lose Top Five Cheaply

 

Babar Azam's disappointing run continued in the third Test.

 

The Pakistan captain was bowled by Josh Tongue for just 7 runs from 18 balls, leaving Pakistan struggling at 48/5. Tongue's delivery nipped back into Babar, went underneath his bat and crashed into the stumps.

 

Pakistan's first five batters all failed to reach double figures, putting the team under enormous pressure early in the innings.

 

Josh Tongue Takes Four Wickets

 

Josh Tongue spearheaded England's bowling attack with an impressive 4/42.

 

Tongue dismissed Babar Azam, Saud Shakeel, Ghazi Ghori and Mohammad Imran. His spell was complemented by Ollie Robinson's 3/15 and Jofra Archer's 3/25.

 

Robinson also reached a significant milestone, taking his 100th Test wicket in his 24th Test match.

 

Saud Shakeel Top Scores for Pakistan

 

Saud Shakeel was the only Pakistan batter to make a substantial contribution.

 

The left-hander scored 43 runs from 47 balls, including seven fours. However, Tongue eventually bowled Shakeel with Pakistan on 107, leaving the lower order with little time to add significantly to the total.

 

Mohammad Abbas provided some resistance with 21, while Razaullah scored 11 on his Test debut. Mohammad Ali remained unbeaten on 5.

 

Razaullah Impresses on Test Debut

 

Pakistan's debutant Razaullah provided one of the few positives from an otherwise difficult opening day.

 

The young pacer claimed 2/42, including the important wicket of Joe Root for 8. Root was dismissed leg-before wicket, giving Razaullah a memorable start to his Test career.

 

Razaullah also later contributed 11 runs with the bat.

 

England Take 23-Run Lead

 

England's response was not completely straightforward. The hosts slipped to 39/3, with Ben Duckett, Jordan Cox and Joe Root back in the pavilion.

 

However, Emilio Gay and Harry Brook then changed the momentum.

 

The pair added 104 runs for the fourth wicket, with Gay scoring 60 and Brook remaining unbeaten on 52 at the close of play. Gay was eventually dismissed by Razaullah, but Brook stayed at the crease alongside Dan Lawrence, who was unbeaten on 5.

 

England finished Day 1 on 156/4, giving them a 23-run advantage over Pakistan.

Pakistan Face Uphill Battle in Final Test

 

England entered the third Test with a 2-0 series lead and are now firmly in control after Day 1 at Edgbaston.

 

Pakistan's latest collapse continues their batting struggles in the series, while England's pace attack once again exploited the conditions effectively.

 

With Harry Brook unbeaten and England already 23 runs ahead, Pakistan will need early wickets on Day 2 to prevent the hosts from building a sizeable first-innings advantage.

 

The third Test could therefore become another major challenge for Pakistan as England look to complete a 3-0 series clean sweep.
