New Delhi, Feb 25 (IANS) Hitting out at the prime minister on the land acquisition ordinance, which is seen as favouring corporate houses, the Congress Wednesday charged Narendra Modi with failing to keep his pre-election promise of depositing Rs.15 lakh into the accounts of every common man.
The party alleged that the ordinance was an attempt to fill the coffers of the business houses.
"The Modi government did not fulfill its promise of bringing (in) Rs.15 lakh in everyone's account. He is preparing, rather, to direct all that money to the accounts of the big corporate houses by way of the land acquisition ordinance," party spokesperson Digvijay Singh said at a sit-in, "Zameen Waapsi Andolan", organised by the Congress to protest against the ordinance.
Addressing a large gathering of farmers here, Digvijay Singh said people's protest against the land acquisition ordinance symbolises a war between the farmers and labourers on one side and the big corporates on the other and it was now for the people to decide which side they were on.
"The fight is between kisaan (farmers), mazdoor (labourers) and villages on one side and the corporate houses on the other side. It is now for the people to decide which side they would support," he added.
