Corona cases are breaking records in India, number of Covid patients crosses 4000; Centre asks states to be prepared.

At least 276 Covid-19 cases were reported in India during the last 24 hours, taking the total number of active Covid-19 cases to 4,302, with Kerala reporting the highest number of infections at 1,373. Maharashtra reported 510 cases, Gujarat 461 and West Bengal 432.

 

Maximum 14 deaths in Maharashtra

At least 457 Covid-19 infections have been recorded in the national capital. A total of 44 Covid-related deaths have been reported in the country so far, with Maharashtra reporting the highest number of 14 deaths. At least seven deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, four of them in Maharashtra. Gujarat and Delhi also reported one Covid-related death each during this period.

The Centre asks states to be prepared.

The Health Ministry has directed all states to ensure the availability of oxygen, isolation beds, ventilators, and essential medicines given the rising cases of corona. Sources said on Wednesday that technical review meetings were held on June 2 and 3 under the chairmanship of Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr. Sunita Sharma.

 

The meeting was attended by representatives of Disaster Management Cell, Emergency Management Response (EMR) Cell, National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP) and Central Government Hospitals in Delhi and representatives from all states and union territories.

 

The meeting was held to assess the current situation and preparedness of Corona. Under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program, state and district surveillance units are closely monitoring influenza-like illness and severe respiratory illness.

 

Positive samples sent for genome sequencing

 

As per the guidelines, testing is recommended for all patients admitted in cases of severe respiratory illness and positive samples are sent for genome sequencing.
