After the knock of the corona epidemic in the year 2020, TB patients suffered a lot due to the lockdown in the country. Due to this, more than 1.5 million TB patients from 45 countries have not received treatment, which includes India. This claim has been made by researchers in a study published in the journal BMC Medicine.

After reviewing government data on TB patients, the researchers concluded that these patients had missed or delayed treatment because of the disruptions caused by the pandemic. Due to this, the health of TB patients has also been seriously affected. The study also found that children are disproportionately affected in more than half the countries. Researchers from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), UK, recorded that vulnerable populations should be prioritized in efforts to reduce the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on TB.

Finn McQuaid, the joint lead author of the study, said: "Our results suggest that many countries that have already faced the greatest difficulty in accessing TB diagnosis and care are facing the worst of the pandemic. . Now it is important that we focus on those people in whom the condition of TB is very serious. The data in the study shows that 195,449 children below 15 years of age, 11.26 lakh aged 15 to 64 years, and 2.35 lakh patients aged 65 years or above were affected.
