In a meeting of Empowered Group I of the Central Government regarding the ever-increasing cases of corona infection, INSACOG said that the new form of the virus is responsible for 38 percent of the spread of infection in the country. INSACOG submitted the report to the top officials of the Health Ministry and NITI Aayog in the meeting. It was reported that Omicron and its variants are predominantly made in the country. This has led to an increase in the infection rate, especially in the western, southern, and northern parts of the country.
According to INSACOG, a new variant of the virus, XBB.1.16, has been observed in different parts of India, accounting for 38.2% of the infections to date. In the samples collected till the third week of last March, the XBB form has been found the most. However, in some parts of the country, the BA.2.10 and BA.2.75 subtypes were also detected, which, like XBB, are derived from the Omicron format.
In the report, INSACOG accepted that the infection has increased rapidly in many districts of the country, but the number of patients in hospitals has not increased here. Most of the cases are showing mild symptoms, and are being advised to remain isolated at home. In people who already have other diseases, the symptoms of corona are being registered in moderate to severe conditions.
