Pune Bridge Collapse: 'There was a lot of crowd on the bridge, the road got jammed due to vehicles', victims told the reason for the Pune accident

A 32-year-old iron footbridge built on the Indrayani River collapsed on Sunday afternoon in the Maval tehsil of Pune in Maharashtra. Four people died in the accident and many others were reported to be seriously injured. The bridge was already declared unsafe. Prima facie, the cause of the accident was said to be the crowd of tourists. They ignored the warning board installed on the spot. Due to this, the crowd on the bridge increased and it collapsed.

 

One of the people injured in the incident said that there was a lot of crowd on the bridge. The road was jammed due to vehicles coming from both sides. The crowd gathered in one place and the bridge collapsed. People standing in the middle of the bridge were swept away. We fell on the stones and got injured.

Sunil Kumar, one of the injured, said, 'When I was on the bridge, I felt it shaking, and by the time I could tell my sister about this, the bridge collapsed. I have a fracture. We are getting good treatment here.'

 

Badal, one of the injured in the bridge collapse incident on the Indrayani river, said, 'Police and NDRF team reached the spot within 15 minutes of the incident. I have suffered injuries in my leg and back. This incident happened because a lot of people had gathered at one place.'

 

More than 100 people were present on the bridge.

More than 100 people were present on the bridge at the time of the accident. It is a popular spot for tourists and picnickers. According to officials, the accident took place at 3:30 pm in Kundamala. It has been raining heavily here for the last few days, due to which the flow of the river is stable.
