Covid Vaccine: Preparing to give one crore vaccine doses a day: Dr. VK Paul

Posted on 27th May 2021 05:19 pm by rohit kumar

Regarding the vaccine and vaccination status in the country, Dr. VK Pal, a member of NITI Aayog, said that we are preparing to give 1 crore doses in a day. It will be possible in a few weeks, we will have to prepare. We made 43 lakh doses a day. We should bring it to 73 lakhs in the next 3 weeks. We must create a system to achieve this. We are in contact with the company. Decisions are being taken regarding the vaccine. This process has been speeded up ... their concerns are being resolved. They have to apply formally. We will work out a solution soon.

On vaccination of children, Dr. VK Paul said that covaxin has got permission, they will start clinical trials on children, I think they are going to be systematically up to the age of 2 years. I have been told that the Serum Institute wants to start a pediatric trial of Novavax. 1-2 countries have started doing so now. The WHO has not yet made any recommendations to cover the population of children in general as any disease in the pediatric population is very mild. If we go to public health with data on deaths then it is a low priority.

He said that to say that the supply has been stopped is not correct. The truth is that out of the available production, a separate portion is available for non-governmental channels including the state government, which can be used by the state government to immunize the people of their state according to the flexible approach.

He said that apart from this, a special channel was created for the remaining 50 percent, where the state governments and private sector can purchase and supply vaccines. Whichever state buys from the private sector, the state governments have to decide to which group it is to be given and taken forward. States know our vaccine production capacity. When they said they wanted flexibility and called for the purchase of vaccines, a new system was introduced, in which the Center would purchase 50 percent of the domestically produced vaccines, while it was free for states over 45 years of age for the group.
