work on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has slowed down and doubts are being raised about its timely completion. A report published in the Singapore Post said that China does not fully trust Pakistan, while Islamabad sees it as its all-time ally.

Shahbaz Sharif's visit to China did not work

According to the report, the recent visit of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to China has failed to reset the ties between the two countries. The report further said, “The revival of CPEC is not expected to be completed on schedule.

There have been attacks on Chinese citizens in Pakistan

The leaders of Beijing are angry with the continuous terrorist attacks on Chinese citizens in Pakistan. Chinese leaders have demanded security for their citizens from Pakistan. As per reports, Chinese nationals working for CPEC have been provided with bulletproof cars to go out.

CPEC is very important for Pakistan as its construction will start many power projects. The power crisis in Pakistan may also go away for several hours. Apart from this, thousands of kilometers of highways have been constructed in CPEC, while many remote areas have also been connected to it. Pakistan was also expected to make 9 special economic zones, but sugar industries started shifting out of there. Apart from the delay in the Special Economic Zone, the corona pandemic, political instability, and difficulty in doing business slowed down the work of CPEC.

The former foreign secretary expressed concern

The Singapore Post, citing The Dawn report, said that Pakistan's former foreign secretary Ejaz Ahmed Chaudhry has expressed concern over the pace of the CPEC. Ejaz says whether the CPEC can pick up the same momentum that it has achieved in the few years since the project was launched in 2015.
