New Delhi, March 19 (IANS) The CPI-M on Thursday condemned the police raid on its office in Shimla and the arrest of more than a dozen people.
The CPI-M said the police broke open the door of its state committee office, damaged furniture and arrested more than a dozen people, including SFI national president Sivadasan.
"Those arrested were beaten in police custody," a Communist Party of India-Marxist statement said. It demanded their release.
It said the police action followed the "severe lathicharge" on a student protest organised by the Students Federation of India outside the assembly against fee hike.
"The CPI-M strongly condemns the illegal entry into the party office by the police. (Himachal Pradesh) Chief Minister Virabhadra Singh is responsible for the repression," it said.
