The five-day session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has begun. The session began with the address of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha this morning. During this, there was a lot of uproar in the House.

In the Assembly, PDP MLA Waheed Para protested against the removal of Article 370, which provided special status to the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state. He also presented a proposal. Apart from this, he also demanded the restoration of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. On this, the opposition created a ruckus in the Assembly.

Abdul Rahim Rather was elected Speaker of the Assembly.

Senior National Conference (NC) leader and seven-time MLA from Charar-e-Sharif Abdul Rahim Rather was elected Speaker of the Assembly. The first Speaker election of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir was held on Monday. Rather (80) was elected Speaker by voice vote after the opposition decided not to contest for the post. 'Pro tem Speaker' Mubarak Gul conducted the election process.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah congratulated Abdul Rahim Rather on being elected Speaker of the Assembly. The Chief Minister said, "On behalf of the entire House, I congratulate you. You were the natural choice for the post of Speaker. No one objected to your being elected Speaker. Now you have become the guardian of this House.
