The CRPF is one of the oldest Central Armed Police Forces in the country and is responsible for the internal security of the country. It was formed on this day in 1939 as the Crown Representative Police. After independence, this force was renamed as Central Reserve Police Force by an Act of Parliament on 28 December 1949.
