Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Oman on Wednesday, the final leg of his three-nation tour. During his two-day visit, PM Modi will hold discussions with Oman's top leadership. An ambitious free trade agreement (FTA) between the two countries will be signed on Thursday in the presence of PM Modi. Upon his arrival in Muscat, PM Modi received a grand welcome from members of the Indian diaspora at his hotel.

At the airport, PM Modi was warmly received by Oman's Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said. He was also accorded a guard of honour. Modi is visiting Oman at the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. This is his second visit to the Gulf nation and coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Upon his arrival in Oman, PM Modi tweeted, "Many thanks to Oman's Deputy Prime Minister (Defence Affairs) Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said for the warm welcome at Muscat Airport. We also had a very good conversation, during which we shared our views on India-Oman friendship."

The free trade agreement between India and Oman was approved by the Union Cabinet last Friday. Officially designated as a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), negotiations for the agreement formally began in November 2023 and concluded this year. PM Modi will hold discussions with Sultan Tariq to strengthen the strategic partnership and promote robust commercial and economic ties between the two countries. He will also address a gathering of the Indian diaspora.
