At the tender age of just 15, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has struck fear into the minds of bowlers with his bat. For two consecutive seasons, this batsman has been taking the IPL by storm. Consequently, he has garnered a legion of admirers, and a new name has now been added to that list: the West Indies’ Ian Bishop, widely regarded as one of the world’s most formidable bowlers. Bishop has heaped lavish praise upon Vaibhav.
He did not merely commend the Rajasthan Royals opener; he also offered a word of caution to bowlers—sending a clear message that even the slightest error in line or length will result in the ball sailing over the boundary.
Vaibhav: A Resilient Force
Vaibhav has delivered a spectacular batting performance this season and remains a constant contender in the race for the Orange Cap. He even smashed a century off just 36 balls this season—an innings he played against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Ironically, it was against this very team, earlier in the season, that he had fallen victim to a “golden duck” (dismissal on the very first ball). Speaking to the media, Bishop remarked, “I believe that, both psychologically and in terms of character, he is remarkably strong, as he is able to comfortably hold his own against some of the world’s most elite bowlers.”
He added, “Therefore, he is mentally prepared to face the world’s best bowlers. He took Jasprit Bumrah to task. Technically, he is unique; his bat swing bears a resemblance to the style seen in baseball.”
The Resilience to Bounce Back
Bishop noted that while Vaibhav may indeed possess certain technical flaws, he undoubtedly possesses the resilience and capability to bounce back. Bishop—a bowler who once instilled fear in the hearts of batsmen with his deliveries—stated, “It is quite difficult to pinpoint his specific weakness. For instance, regarding the ‘back-of-a-length’ delivery—a tactic that proved effective against him during the Under-19 World Cup and the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad—if you err even slightly in your execution, he will simply dispatch the ball out of the park.”
Batting brilliantly, the Rajasthan Royals defeated the Punjab Kings by 6 wickets with 4 balls to
