DC vs CSK: 'Sanju Samson is our backbone...' — Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad ecstatic after defeating Delhi.

Chennai Super Kings defeated Delhi Capitals by 8 wickets in a one-sided contest played on the latter's home turf. The true heroes of CSK's victory in this match were Sanju Samson (87) and Karthik Sharma (41), whose unbroken century partnership enabled Chennai to chase down a target of 156 runs in just 17.3 overs.

Following the victory in this match, Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad appeared visibly delighted. During the post-match presentation, he heaped praise on Sanju Samson, describing him as the backbone of the team.

Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad Elated After Victory

In fact, the start of this season had been extremely disappointing for CSK, as they suffered three consecutive defeats at the hands of RR, PBKS, and RCB. However, the five-time champions staged a tremendous comeback, registering back-to-back victories against DC and KKR.

After suffering another defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the team regained its rhythm by comprehensively defeating Mumbai Indians in their subsequent two matches. They faced an 8-wicket defeat in the match against GT; however, in the match played yesterday against Delhi—on their home ground—CSK secured a one-sided victory.

With this win, Chennai now occupies a strong position in the points table with 10 points from 10 matches, while Delhi Capitals have slipped to the seventh spot with 8 points.

Following the victory, Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance, describing cricket as a "game of momentum." Recalling his initial discussions with Head Coach Stephen Fleming, he said:

"Even after the early defeats, Fleming and I remained consistently positive. We felt that we were in a better position compared to last year. With Sanju joining the squad and a strengthened middle order, we had addressed all our shortcomings. Our bowling unit was also finding its rhythm; we were simply searching for those one or two victories essential for building momentum in T20 cricket. The win secured after the third match truly galvanized the entire team."

Heaping Praise on Sanju

During the post-match presentation, when Captain Gaikwad (CSK Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad's Post-Match Statement) was asked if it was gratifying to see various players stepping up and taking responsibility, he replied:

"Yes, absolutely. Speaking of the batting department, having a player like Sanju in the squad is a privilege for me—especially considering the kind of tournament he had during the World Cup, and the form he continues to display here. Evidently, he has now become the 'backbone' of our team. However, bowling is the department that ultimately wins you tournaments. The work being done by Akeal Hosein and Jamie Overton is truly commendable; while others might be leaking runs at an economy rate of 10 or 12, these two calmly step up and execute their roles to perfection. That instills a great deal of confidence in the team. Then there is Anshul Kamboj, a shrewd bowler who understands his strengths well. Yes, he had an off day today, but he is the kind of player who takes his mistakes to heart and is eager to bounce back stronger." - Ruturaj Gaikwad

Speaking about his strategy following the victory, the CSK captain said:

"To be honest, we don't really engage in any specific planning. We (Sanju and Gaikwad) simply communicate the state of the wicket to each other—discussing what is happening on the pitch and how we should proceed. That is the extent of our conversation. Beyond that, everything depends on how the over is unfolding and the direction in which the match is turning. We speak very little, as you tend to rely more on your own instincts. Sanju is doing his job exceptionally well for me, so I am very happy."
