There will be a fourth attempt on February 16 to conduct the election of the mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. On Thursday, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi sent a proposal to the Delhi government to hold elections on February 16. Which the government had sent to the Lieutenant Governor.

The government did not make any changes to the date. At the same time, today i.e. on Monday, the Supreme Court will hear the petition of the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) mayor candidate Shaili Oberoi. Where the corporator, lieutenant governor, and presiding officer have to respond to the notice of the Supreme Court.

Mayor's election could not be held thrice till now

So far the election of the mayor of the corporation has not been successful in three meetings. Not only this, the whole process is being similarly completed in installments. From the oath of councilors to the election of the mayor, deputy mayor, and six members of the standing committee, it has to be done in a single meeting. The results of the general election of the corporation held on December 4, 2022, came on December 7, 2022. After this, the date of January 6 was fixed for the oath of the councilors and the election of the mayor.

As soon as the presiding officer Satya Sharma called the nominated members to take the oath, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) protested. Because of this, the meeting was adjourned due to uproar. After this, the meeting was adjourned on January and February 6 also due to uproar by the BJP councilors.

AAP got a majority in the result on December 7. AAP got 134 seats, BJP 104, and Congress nine with three independents.

The meeting took place again on 24 January. Councilors were sworn in, but then the meeting was adjourned due to an uproar

On January 26, AAP filed a petition in the Supreme Court for holding mayoral elections.

On February 1, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena fixed February 6 as the date for the mayor's election.

On February 3, the Aam Aadmi Party withdrew the petition filed in the Supreme Court.

On February 6, the third meeting was held regarding the mayoral election, but due to the uproar, the meeting was again postponed.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) again filed a petition in the Supreme Court for holding the mayoral elections on February 6.

On February 8, the Supreme Court sought answers from the Lieutenant Governor, the Delhi government, the corporation, and the presiding officer on the petition filed regarding the mayoral election.

On February 9, the proposal of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, approving the proposal to hold elections on February 16, has been sent to the Lieutenant Governor.

Now the special officer will have to decide on passing the budget

Special Officer of Municipal Corporation of Delhi Ashwani Kumar will now have to decide on passing the budget on Monday or Tuesday. Till now the special officers were not passing this budget also because the election of councilors has been done.

There was also a possibility of the formation of the house, but due to the uproar, the formation of the house could not be done. While according to the rules, the corporation has to complete this process by February 15, according to the obligation of the Corporation Act. So the special officer will have to decide on it on Monday and Tuesday.
