If you have not yet linked your PAN with your Aadhaar Card (Pan Aadhaar Link), then do it before March 31, because the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has made it mandatory to link your PAN with your Aadhaar. If one does not do this, your PAN will become inoperative from April 1.
If you do not have a Pan Aadhaar link, you can get stuck in trouble.
If you do not link your PAN with your Aadhaar before the due date, then you may have to pay income tax, do bank transactions, buy and sell shares on your behalf in the stock market, and re-validate the PAN card again. You may have to visit government offices to activate it.
These people are exempted from Pan Aadhaar Link
According to a notification issued by the government in May 2017, certain categories of people have been exempted from linking PAN with Aadhaar. This includes citizens of the North East states of Assam, Meghalaya, and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, NRIs, and citizens above 80 years of age.
How to link your PAN with Aadhaar
First of all, you have to visit the Income Tax website websites-
eportal.incometax.gov.in or incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.
After this, you will have to register by filling in the PAN number in place of the user ID. (if you have never registered before)
Login to the portal.
After this, a pop window will appear to link PAN with Aadhaar. If it doesn't, then go to Profile Settings in the menu and click on the Aadhaar link.
Where you will see PAN card details like date of birth, gender, and name.
After this, match your information with your Aadhaar. If the details on your Aadhaar and PAN are the same, then click on the Link Now button.
After this, it will be written on your screen that your PAN has been linked to your Aadhaar.
