Doval bluntly on the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister: A pre-condition for the immediate and complete withdrawal of the army from Ladakh before the resumption of normal relations

On Friday, NSA Ajit Doval told Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi that the army should be immediately withdrawn from the rest of Ladakh, without which bilateral relations will not be normal. Mutual trust will increase only by restoring peace on the border. The current situation is not in the interest of both countries. Chinese Foreign Minister Yi also held personal and then representative level talks with Foreign Minister Jaishankar at Hyderabad House.

Sources privy to the talks said Doval told Yi that positive dialogue at the diplomatic and military level is a precondition for normalizing relations. It should be ensured that the security of both countries is not violated by any action. Efforts have to be made in this direction. Also, outstanding issues should be resolved as soon as possible. According to sources, when the Chinese side invited NSA Doval to China, he gave a positive reply and said that he can visit China provided the immediate issues are successfully resolved.

Chinese Foreign Minister Yi arrived in Delhi on Thursday. The main purpose of his visit is to start direct talks between the two countries after the era of the Corona epidemic. He is also going to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Beijing meeting of BRICS countries to be held this year. Jaishankar has discussed several issues with the Chinese counterpart. Before the talks started, he tweeted Chinese Foreign Minister - 'Welcome to Wang Yi at Hyderabad House.'

Comment on Kashmir in Islamabad, India rejected

Wang Yi attended the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting in Islamabad before reaching Delhi. There he said that in Kashmir, we again heard the voice of many of our Islamic friends today. China also shares the same hope. However, India rejected his remarks on Kashmir and said that other countries, including China, have no right to comment on its internal affairs.

Standoff in Ladakh for two years

There is a standoff in Ladakh between the two countries since May 2020. This is the first visit by a senior Chinese leader to India since then. Last month, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar had said that India's relations with China were passing through a very difficult phase. After the violent conflict in the Galwan Valley, the two countries have held several rounds of border talks to resolve the standoff. India is adamant about the complete withdrawal of the army from all the tense areas in Ladakh.

Military commander level talks held 15 times

On March 11 this month, the 15th round of military corps commander-level talks between the two countries took place at the Chushul-Moldo border post. In this, both sides agreed to maintain security and stability along the Line of Actual Control in the Western Sector.

Yi-Jaishankar met in Dushanbe in July last year

Earlier in July last year, Jaishankar had met Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Dushanbe. There Jaishankar had said that India does not accept the unilateral change of status quo in the border area. This was the second face-to-face interaction between Jaishankar and Wang Yi since the standoff along the Ladakh LoC began in early May 2020. Jaishankar had a meeting with Wang Yi in Moscow during the SCO meeting in September 2020, months after the Galvan Valley conflict. It also discussed the development of India-China relations along with the India-China border dispute.

Request to raise the issue of Tibet

Meanwhile, Tibet's MP-in-exile Thubten Gyatso has requested the Indian government to raise the issue of Tibet in a meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister. He said that he should also request that the Chinese government start talks with the Dalai Lama and end the repressive policy in Tibet.
