The Delhi government is going to give a big gift to the people of Delhi today. It is going to induct 150 electric (e) buses into the public fleet simultaneously in Delhi. These electric buses will be flagged off by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from the IP depot.
Earlier in January, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had flagged off two prototype electric buses. With these electric buses running on the roads of Delhi, the public will be able to travel free of cost for three days. No ticket will be taken from anyone. This facility will continue from May 24 to May 26.
In this regard, Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot said that this is a big day for us. Delhi Government is always committed to making better traffic arrangements for its people. He said that we want to see people travel in these buses, experience their convenience, and share their experiences.
Gehlot said that any person can travel for free in these buses for the next three days till May 24-26. Apart from these, the Delhi government is also announcing a competition to promote its e-buses and to encourage more and more people to travel, experience, promote and encourage them.
Along with the free ride, the Delhi government has also urged citizens to take a selfie while riding e-buses and post it on their Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook handle with the hashtag #IrideEbus. The top three contestants involved will have a chance to win an iPad.
E-buses will have these facilities
These state-of-the-art buses have CCTV cameras, GPS, 10 panic buttons, ramps for differently-abled, etc. For the maintenance of these 150 buses, three depots at Mundelkalan, Rajghat, and Rohini Sector-37 have been made fully electric bus depots. Another 150 buses will be added in the coming months.
E buses will run on these routes
After flagging off by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, these buses will be available on major routes of Delhi - Sharp Mudrika on Ring Road, Route No. 502 between Mori Gate and Mehrauli Terminal, Route No. E-44 will also run on IP Depot, Connaught Place, Safdarjung, South Extension, Ashram, Jangpura, and India Gate route.
