The state is highly vulnerable to earthquakes and is placed in zones four and five. Director of the Meteorological Department Surendra Pal said that due to frequent earthquakes, the possibility of major tremors reduces, it is beneficial.
Why do earthquakes happen?
The whole earth is situated on 12 tectonic plates. These plates are below 30 to 50 km. Beneath it is liquid lava, these plates move slowly on this lava. Every year 4-5 mm slips from its place. Some plate moves closer to another plate and some moves away. In such a situation, many times they also collide with each other. And their collision releases energy which is called an earthquake. The center of an earthquake is the place just below which the movement of the plates releases geological energy. Earthquake vibrations are more at this place.
