Election rallies and roadshows were banned till 31 January because of rising corona cases in the country and assembly elections in 5 states. The Election Commission met on Monday. It has been decided to extend this ban till February 11. But with these restrictions, some relief has also been given. That is, 1000 people will be able to participate in the rally along with the ban.
These rules brought about the campaign
Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra reviewed the ban on rallies after meeting the Union Health Secretary. According to the new rules, 500 people will be allowed to sit in indoor gatherings. Whereas 20 people will be able to go with the candidate in the door-to-door campaign. Earlier, because of the increasing cases of Corona, the Election Commission had banned rallies and roadshows in the five states till January 22. However, then it was increased to 31 January.
After the announcement of election dates on January 8, the Election Commission on January 15 had banned large rallies and gatherings. Which was extended again on 22 January. On January 31, it has been extended again till February 11, but the exemption has been increased.
Rallies in UP were already held before the ban
However, even before the announcement of the election dates, PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and UP Chief Minister Yogi had held rallies or road shows in two out of every three assembly seats of the state. If you understand in terms of percentage, then this figure is 68%. In terms of seats, this trio had reached 275 out of 403 seats in UP.
