What Should You Check Before Buying Gold?
Consumers should take a few precautions before purchasing gold jewellery.
1. Buy BIS-hallmarked gold:
Check that the jewellery carries the appropriate BIS hallmark and verify the hallmark details before making a purchase. Hallmarking helps establish the declared purity of the gold.
2. Compare the day's gold rate:
Gold prices vary according to purity, including 24-carat, 22-carat and 18-carat gold. Before buying, check the prevailing bullion rate and compare the jeweller's quoted price. Also verify the net weight and applicable making charges.
Gold Silver Price Today: What Investors Should Know
Today's decline in gold and silver prices comes after both precious metals recorded substantial gains during the year. Short-term price movements can be influenced by international bullion prices, currency movements, interest-rate expectations, geopolitical developments and domestic demand.
For jewellery buyers, a one-day movement may have limited significance, while investors should consider their investment horizon and risk tolerance before making a decision.
