For the first time in five years in Mumbai, vector-borne, dengue and malaria-like diseases decrease: BMC

According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation figures, the city has witnessed a 54 per cent decline in cases of dengue, malaria and leptospirosis in the first five months of this year compared to the previous five years. The reason behind the decline in cases is being told to be the lockdown imposed to control the corona virus.

The incidence of mosquito-borne disease and vector borne disease has decreased in Mumbai by May 2020 as compared to the last five years in Mumbai. However, it is believed that due to the lockdown, BMC's control measuring system has also been affected and this is a matter of concern.

According to the data, in January-May 2016, only 1,762 cases related to water and mosquitoes were registered in Mumbai, but by January-May this year, these cases fell by 54 percent to 809. In the first five months of 2016, there were 114 cases of dengue which fell to only 37 in the first five months of this year. At the same time, mosquito-borne disease has dropped by 74 percent. In 2016, there were 1,628 cases of malaria in Mumbai, which fell to 753 this year.

In comparison to 2016 in Mumbai, 19 cases of leptospirosis were seen this year whereas in 2016 there were 20 cases. Health officials say a reduction in diseases such as malaria and vector-borne has been observed due to construction disruptions. Additional Commissioner of BMC Suresh Kakani said that these diseases have come down due to reduction in movement of people and the closure of construction work.

In Mumbai, mosquito-related diseases are more prevalent during the monsoon, so the administration has set up non-Covid-19 hospitals to treat such patients at many places. Although the symptoms of Malaria, Dengue and Covid-19 are almost the same, so there can be doubt about the health status of the patient.

Doctor Lancelot Pinto of Hinduja Hospital says that before the swab test we can identify abnormal symptoms of dengue, malaria in the patient, such as inability to smell, change the color of fingers and toes, to see the state of lungs. - It can be detected by what disease the patient is.

But before this, the doctor found many such patients who were suffering from both Covid-19 and Dengue diseases. Maharashtra Task Force member Dr Om Srivastava says that there have been some cases in which symptoms of both Covid-19 and Dengue were also seen in the patient. In such cases health problems increase further.
