Hearing on the bail plea of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has started in the Supreme Court. Kejriwal, who is in jail for a Delhi liquor policy scam, had filed a bail plea in the Supreme Court challenging his arrest. A bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan is hearing Delhi CM's bail plea. Senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi is representing Kejriwal.

Kejriwal's lawyer gave these arguments for bail

During the hearing on the bail plea, Kejriwal's lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi argued that 'Kejriwal's name is not there in the FIR filed by CBI in the excise policy case. Also, while granting interim bail to Kejriwal recently, the Supreme Court had said that Delhi CM is not a threat to the society.' Singhvi also said that twice Supreme Court and the trial court ordered to release of Kejriwal on bail.

According to Singhvi, once the Supreme Court had released Kejriwal on bail for the election campaign and once Kejriwal got bail in ED's money laundering case. Singhvi argued that Kejriwal holds a constitutional post and is not a threat to society. He said that 'The CBI had not made any arrest in two years, but then Kejriwal was arrested on 26 June. Kejriwal's arrest was a kind of insurance arrest.'

Kejriwal has filed two petitions

Arvind Kejriwal has filed two separate petitions, which are being heard by the Supreme Court. In one petition, Kejriwal has challenged his arrest by the CBI. In the second petition, Kejriwal has appealed for bail. Earlier on August 5, the Delhi High Court had rejected Kejriwal's bail plea and asked him to go to the trial court.
