After the appointment of Pakistan's new army chief, former ISI chief Lt Gen Faiz Hamid has decided to retire soon. Former ISI chief and one of Pakistan's top military officers Lt Gen Faiz Hamid announced on Tuesday. According to media reports in Pakistan, he has opted for early retirement after not being appointed as the army chief.

General Hamid was one of the six senior-most generals selected by the General Headquarters (GHQ) for the post of Chief of Army Staff. The list was sent to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for approval last week.

The decision was taken after not being elected Pak army chief

Pakistan's Dawn News TV reported that Bahawalpur Corps Commander Lt-Gen Hamid has decided to take early retirement after not being selected as the country's army chief.

General Asim Munir has been appointed as the Chief of the Army Staff.

Former ISI chief General Asim Munir was on Thursday appointed as the Chief of Army Staff by the Pakistan government. With this, the ongoing speculation on the high-profile and sensitive post has now come to an end.

General Hamid sent his resignation to the high command

Dawn news report said that General Hamid has sent his resignation to the high command. At the same time, the officials have already accepted his resignation before the new posting after taking over the charge of Army Chief General Munir on Tuesday.

Geo News also informed about the resignation citing family sources.

There has been no official confirmation of the development from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan Army. However, these reports seem credible as neither the ISPR nor General Hamid himself denied the reports. At the same time, Geo News has also informed about his resignation citing family sources.

Explain that both the officers were to retire in April 2023. He was junior to Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza and Gen Munir, who was appointed as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and Chief of Army Staff respectively last week.
